TN:00' Leroy Clos Vougeot

00’ Leroy Clos Vougeot- I showed up at our office and the boss said lets go to the warehouse and grab some wine. This was from his small Leroy stash that has been in the warehouse for years.

The color was a bit browning at the rim, but not the normal discoloration, just a bit rust or brown. My boss has said that his wine has been this way since he got it, so to him nothing out of the norm. Nose was tight with a bit of bottle funk that quickly wore off. Strawberry, sandlewood, hazelnuts, clay, rich berry, smoke. I kept on going back to the nutty-ness, not oxidized but a really warm chestnut note. The palate has great acid, expansive weight that kept on opening as the mid-afternoon progressed, It was airy and light but with this amazing concentration that kept dripping off my tongue. This was my first Leroy Grand Cru (I don’t hang in certain circles…uhum, FU) but have had enough PC and village to see where the GC steps it up.

I’m still thinking about it and this was on Thursday. For me WOTY, for FU and gang, just another 30th Birthday. champagne.gif

Fu was slumming it with premier cru Leroy. Poor guy.

Nice note. The wine sounds killer.

Lalou does it right!

I brought a Leroy GC on Saturday night, sorrry I missed you Ryan, it would have been nice to meet.

Very nice note on the Vougeot, it sounds like a great bottle.

Good note. Jason, we had this btl in June! Didn’t taste as good as Jason’s bottle though.

In June I thought I brought a 1996 Leroy Latricieres-Chambertin and you brought a 1996 Leroy Les Beaux Monts. My head is still fuzzy from the weekend, so I could be confused too…

Sorry! I meant up in sf. The 00 vintage tasting.

Ahhh, you are correct. Sorry for the thread drift.

Jason, if you want grand cru Leroy you should hang out with curry. Leroy musigny is a monthly occurrence :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds good, let’s make this happen. No moose, but I have a GC or two rolling around somewhere…
