TI - 1999 Noon Eclipse

TI = Tasting Impression - notes they aren’t

Digging around by cellar, I found a couple of these hanging around. Missed a Ribs and Syrah/Zin offline organized by RPS this afternoon (bummed) because of work, so I thought this wine would at least be in the spirit, if not the letter, of the event.

I must say, I’m a bit surprised how well this has hung together. This wine is a Southern Rhone ringer. Still showing a full (but not overblown) maturing, grenache palate and nice finish, with a bit of bite on this finish. This is showing much better than a bottle I had a couple of years ago, which had become disjointed, had lost its fruit and was really hot on the finish (for those SA haters, you can still tell this has more than average alcohol). A touch of VA on the nose, but not too intrusive. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

Always liked the Noon wines, esp. the Eclipse.

Two hours after opening, thr fruits drops off the cliff, leaving its pronounced alcohol shell. Drink up and drink fast

The one I had two years ago was VA city and undrinkable. [bleh.gif]

I’ve crossed them off my list.
