2006 Carlisle Zinfandel Carlo’s Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/27/2009)
15.3% alcohol. This is the archetype of delicious, big Zin. Deep red/purple color. Gorgeous nose of spicy black fruit and pepper with a slightly jammy edge. In the mouth, structured, concentrated, and pure while maintaining excellent balance. The fruit smacks you in the face up front, supported by terrific spicy and peppery notes. Strong acidity and a brilliant finish. A-/A -

Tom, I agree on all of them! Delicious wines. If only the WS zins were a tad cheaper like the Carlisles.
Nice work Tom!
BTW, I like your “From the Gutt” site too except that those fine looking Houston hamburgers are making me hungry.
They just don’t make burgers (or BBQ or TexMex) like that around here.
Ah, the Carlisle Sonoma County Zins. QPR monsters! I loved the 07s-- in fact, I am down to my last few bottles. The '06 is really nice, but very structured-- and Mike Officer suggested laying these down for a while. Well, I just had one last week and it was singing. It had this crayon/iodine thing going that I did not expect from Zin, as well as an almost creamy, beautiful mouthfeel. It went beautifully with a nice pizza from Delfina in SF! Glad I ordered like two cases of the stuff on release-- $16, are you kidding me?
