We gave this a try tonight, having not been here since it was formerly called Sorrento Grille. It sits in the downtown Laguna section, near Forest Avenue. Sunday night is the family style night and for 28 bucks per person, three courses. Tonight was a diggable endive, blood orange and green salad with goat cheese. Second course was sea bass with a red pepper coulis and spinach, ending with a vanilla ice cream and diced apple pie filling. Corkage is zero on bottle one and 15 bucks thereafter. I brought a Michel Tonerre 08 that went real well, and we grabbed a 1/2 pint of IPA. Add espresso, was a great meal. Next Sunday is the same family style, although 20 bucks, this time chicken.
For those of you in the OC, give this a try. They did a damn good job.
Agree 100%, Frank. Very reasonable corkage (just an fyi, 1st bottle is free if not on their wine list, which shouldn’t pose a problem for a member of this board). Very noisy, but that’s the only nit to pick, and really no big deal. Lots of choices to choose from, great for sharing a bunch of small plates.
Agree with the above. This is a welcome upgrade compared to the old Sorrento Grille. We had a really nice roasted bone marrow starter and a pork rib cap main with an apple/red onion slaw on top. We enjoyed 370 over Broadway next door, although Broadway had a nice cocktail selection.
For not being exactly fine dining, they did a bang up job on my mushroom risotto. A properly long time to prepare, not smothered in cream/cheese, perfectly seasoned, and slightly al dente. A few nice vegetarian options around the menu, and kid friendly.
My wife and I went to 370 again this past Sunday night, to do the Sunday social menu again. 20 bucks this time per. Great endive, apple and shaved cheese salad, then the chicken cooked in bellpepper, green olive and polenta and the closing cake dessert which was olive oli, polenta and marsapone topping. Add some craft beer, which was nice IPA, and I left there stuffed. I tell you what, I can make this place a Sunday regular event and the portions are not skimpy. For the OC crowd, they have the menu on the website so either look it up or call, as the Sunday gig is a real deal. Try it.
5 feet closed, Broadway took it’s place and is getting good reviews I see.
Diz’s appears to still be there but I haven’t been in years.
But skip those places and head straight to Brussels Bistro, by far the most fun place to eat there. Always changing specials, best beer in the county, and a smoked salmon appetizer that will melt your face.
