Thoughts on Roulot's Monthélie?

After having a 2009 Roulot Bourgogne Blanc, recently, blow me away versus my expectations, I was looking forward to trying my lone bottle of 2009 Monthélie. What I found was an overpowering nose of burnt rubber, smoke, and tar. Is that reduction? Having this wine blind, I might have guessed southern Rhone, except the acidity was really pronounced (which I dig). Over the course of an hour while I drank it, the wine changed very little. I had a second glass the next day, and the burnt rubber characteristic had subsided a bit, but was still not a pleasant wine to drink.

Ok, so I either had an off bottle, or drank this wine waaaaaaaay too young. What say you?
