Thoughts on '09 Calera SVD Pinots?

I had mixed feelings about the '07s - seemed very ripe and flabby to me. The generic '07 was better to my palate. Any thoughts on the '09s before they are released?
Thanks.

Hey Chris - I’ve had the base 2009 pinot and it was pretty ripe and juicy. I know conventional wisdom suggests a long waiting period for these wines, but this didn’t strike me as anything more than a simplistic, ripe pinot.

The base is always like that but I wouldn’t judge the vineyard wines by it. I think they only make it to pay the bills.

I don’t know how much quantity of the single vineyard wines is made, but they are priced to pay some bills too IMO. I still have a few bottles of 2001’s, which are lovely in a lazer beam sort of way, but several tastes of later vintages have seemed a bit fat and hot to me. So I didn’t keep on trying the wines, perhaps to my detriment. One needs to respect Calera and Josh Jensen as pioneers of CA pinot noir seeking a Burgundy-inspired sense of balance, restraint, and place. And I have not tasted enough to give proper respect, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Thanks, there was nothing Burgundy-like about the '07s Ive had.
