I’ve been offered a pretty sweet deal on this but have no experience with this vintage. The CT scores seemed decent but Parker gave it an 86. Would appreciate any recent experiences prior to pulling the trigger. Thanks
What’s the price? I know there was a super aggressive restaurant by-the-glass price on the east coast.
I like it less than Parker.
Ouch. That bad? Maybe a pass.

Seo,
What do you drink?
many many people used Pride as a gateway drug in this little hobby of ours. Mine was Pride Merlot from about 2000-2003 coupled with many Aussie shiraz wines.
what i can tell you about the Pride wines, and IIRC, Foley has moved on right?, is that they can be quite similar in their youth. To prove this point and add confusion several locals gathered in my home about 2 years ago. We spanned several vintages and may varietals and did them blind with one of the people wrapping the bottles in foil and another, unaided, mixing them up.
Between the cab, syrah, petite syrah, merlot, mountain top merlot and 2 or 3 years - we had great difficulty in distinguishing the wines.
But, they have good grapes and make good wine for what they are.
Put another way - if you like the style (and I consider it fruity, oaky and monolithic) then, by all means, grab some if the price suits your range.
I will put this another way. When I have company that “likes wine” but not to the level that those of us here do, I have no issues pulling these for company and they go over very well.
Remember, vanilla is an international flavor… ![]()
Chris - Thanks for the thoughts. I definately dont need a gateway wine at this point. My cellar is pretty diverse, though admitedly Cali cab heavy. But I drink a ton of rhone varietals as well and I have a few cases of bord and burg. The thought behind the Pride was to have it as (i) a cellar defender when people are over and (ii) as that second or third bottle of the night when my palate is shot but I’m not done drinking. If its oaky, fruit forward juice (as I would expect from Pride) and not flawed, I am tempted to take some down for the reasons mentioned here.
