We have a winner!
Berserker Dependence Day
This pushes the date closer to July 4th, imo.
Vin Dependence Day
This is an amazing idea. The camaraderie and support around these parts are bar none.
As said, laaaawd knows most wineries could use a mid-year boost. We’ll always find challenges in the timing for one reason or another. Early July could be a great experiment in the viability of the event. August is full vacation mode for so many and might have less traction. But what do I know?
BD has developed such a massive following, would this dilute the “brand” or grow awareness to a new audience?
As a BD participant, I’d welcome the opportunity to move some wine and do some shopping.
Other than smaller, how do we make it different and special to potential customers? How do we make it successful without crushing Todd and the team under the weight of managing this beast?
This is great. I would argue producers need this now more than they did in the COVID days. I love the idea of having it in late July or early August. I agree with the comments raising concern about participation during the July 4th weekend.
Anyway, thank you Todd and all you other Berserkers for even discussing this! It’s great to know there are people who value small, owner operated wineries. You are all the BEST!
Red, White, and Phew. Beserker Relief Fest
Great idea. July is perfect, gives time to reload for January. Most berserkers understand and appreciate that shipments won’t be in the heat of summer. I’m on board.
Ok, we’re doing it, in July, poll below on the possible dates/names (we’ll do a whole weekend, to capture as much as possible, and since it’s not a ‘BerserkerDay’, technically, might as well spread it through the weekend for those who are busy on any particular day of the weekend.
PLEASE VOTE: (each is a long weekend option)
- VinDependence Day - July 3-6
- Ber-Steal Day, ‘off with their prices!’ - July 11-14
I’m torn. I think that holding it over July 4th is a bad idea timing-wise, but I loooove the name “Vindependence Day”!
I don’t need anymore wine, my cellar overfloweth…therefore, I’m in!
Don’t mind waiting for shipping at all (see my first sentence)
I’m with you…but you should abstain from voting, therefore, and let the others decide, lest you tax yourself with the guilt of making the wrong choice!
I am torn as well - if the idea is to get as many eyes on the site in hopes of increasing potential sales, perhaps mid July is better than over July 4th . . . But I am just guessing here.
With enough planning and PR I think July 4th weekend could work . . .
Also, I’m hoping that there will be an auction component so us wineries can donate and help raise some $$$ for either WB or a cause.
Cheers!
the only ‘PR’ will be me blasting to our members - this won’t be a full BerserkerDay as I can’t dilute the big day, but it will be mostly the WB faithful stepping up during difficult economic times (even for them, as consumers) to help out the tiny producers - a Berserkers tradition
Agreed. Keep Vindependence Day, but make it July 11-14.
Certainly possible, don’t want to fret much about it, just pick a date that works best
Looks like the later date is definitely more popular!
Ok, let’s settle on the July 11-14 date, and the VinDependence Day nomenclature.
One question…since it’s the wine industry that’s in massive turmoil (along with general economy in the US, in particular) should we limit it to just wine, or add the few ‘other’ options we have, glassware, food, etc?
If it’s really about relief for wineries, then it should be a wine only event. Loading up on steaks or glassware doesn’t directly help.
I’ve got skin in the game but feel that “other stuff” might bring more people in who then may buy wine and it’s certainly easy enough to do and doesn’t detract from the wine aspects.
I can see both David’s and Alan’s points.
You could argue that if the wine business is feeling pain, wine “derivatives” like glassware would be in the same boat and might be included. Food etc. maybe not so much. But if it helps bring traffic, that would be great. Perhaps limit the latter category to a small cadre of fan favorites?
