2005 Stéphane Cossais Montlouis-sur-Loire Le Volagré - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire (6/22/2014)
Opened one based on a CellarTracker note suggesting it’s aging poorly. Fortunately, this bottle was fine (actually, exceptional). Spectacular surprise, beautiful Q/P. Screams Chenin Blanc Sec, and I wouldn’t ever mistake this bottle for anything else. Not a subtle wine; quite unctuous. Apples and citrus, waxy lanolin notes. Very slightly sweet, but much more towards sec than demi. Strikingly dense but packs a walloping acidity that keeps it bright.
No hurry to drink up, but showing very nicely at the moment. (92 pts.)

Anyone know what happened to the producer?
Sadly, Cossais died a couple of years ago.
As already posted, Stephane died. he had a heart attack in July 2009, when on holiday. It was a great tragedy as he was only in his early 40s. His wines were intense, focused, dry and exciting. You can still find some on the market and I bouth some 2008 Le Volagré only a month ago in the UK. If I recall correctly a lot of his winemaking equipment was bought up by Frantz Saumon afterwards. Some of his wines (e.g. the Minerale +) occasionally hint at the same level of quality.
So sad to learn this. Thank you Tvrtko and Chris for the update. “Intense, focused, dry and exciting” concisely sums up my one experience with his wine. I have two bottles left but will keep my eyes opened for more. We’ll toast his memory next time I open a Cossais wine.
