Curious why you didn’t include Chateau Lamartine’s Expression Cuvee, Zachary. It’s their top cuvee at Chateau Lamartine and the 2006 vintage
Expression is one of the best Cahors wines and certainly rivals some of the best from Argentina.

I’m was not terribly fond of the one bottle of Expression I tried (I forget which vintage), nor do I care for most Malbecs from Argentina, for the same reason: too much oak.
I think that at least since WW II, the “black wine” thing has been a romantic concept…that many wineries cite, but that no one, including the Clos Gamot (arguably the top wine) really make. It is a nice area to visit and taste…what the French in the Dordogne have learned from the Argentinians… about Malbec (which they call Cot, and the wisdom is came from Burgundy).
