I don’t think this has an official thread yet…so here it goes…show us what ya just GOT on Winebid!
1993/94 Heitz Pinot Noir!
Anyone know the vineyard source here?
I forgot to jump in last minute and steal a couple bottles, so I got NOTHIN this week! Serves me right.
Dear WineBid Snipers,
May your wines be corked and plagued with brett
May your vino be cooked and leave your tummy upset
I hope you go broke chasing my bids
And that all your young wine is afflicted with SIDS
My marriage counsellor approves of your backstabbing ways
As my wife disapproves of my profligate days
My liver will quit as I end up in diapers
But I’ll never forget a WineBid sniper!
Sincerely,
Wine Karma
Still banned…
I just drank someone else’s 90’ Phelan Segur that was purchased on WineBid, does that count? It was fantastic.
Just picked up some bottles last week for my birthday in March.
Ojai Roll Ranch Syrah '98/'03/'05
Ojai BN Syrah '00
Hopefully more to come!! Keeping it local!
I recently moved to SC, where they don’t ship. But when I lived in NC I picked these up in 2013:
-
1999 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir East Block - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/16/2013)
Bought 2 from auction - what a treat. Wonderfully integrated acid, tannin, minerals, earth and mostly red fruits. Just singing right now - brought it to a dinner with some seriously high scoring stuff, and a couple people called this WOTN. -
2000 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/16/2013)
A really nice balance of mature flavors with youthful vigor. Plenty of acid, medium weight, with red and black fruits, some mushroom, earth, and forest floor. Drank the same on night 2 - a rock solid Pinot that has many years left. -
2001 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir River Block - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/7/2013)
Purchased off Winebid about a month ago. I was hoping this bottle had some life left, and whoa Nellie…she was a screaming good! Slow-ox’d for 60-90 minutes…then drank as we made pizza, and while we ate it. Not dark in color, but the darker, more mature shades of red, like a brown/purple mix. Nice bricking on the edges. Great aromas of old fruit, pine, dirt, and rock. Mature flavors, but still with great acidity. Cranberry, pomegranate, pine, forest floor, rhubarb, crushed rock/dirt mix, mushroom. To whomever sold this to me… thank you! My 2013 WOTY so far… -
2001 Tenuta La Fuga (Attanosio) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (1/11/2014)
Took to dinner with friends, was worried because I was unable to decant this, but it was impressive. A great mineral/smoky nose, with excellent smoky/tobacco/graphite notes on the palate. Good acid, moderate tannins that integrated well with food. A very nice drink! -
2001 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/25/2013)
Popped and poured, a nice earthy nose with a touch of florals. On the palate, dusty minerals, smoky red fruit, good acid, and a bit of tannin. Plenty of life left in the bottle. Nice, and will continue to improve. -
2002 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir West Block - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/27/2014)
Purchased from auction, brought it to dinner for my wife’s birthday. Beautiful nose of florals and crushed rock, with a little cherry underneath. No sediment to speak of, but more of an unfiltered look to it, as it was cloudy, medium to dark red, fading to an almost pink hue on the edges. Incredible mouthfeel with a velvety texture. On the palate was cranberry, cherry, good minerality, good acidity, maybe a touch of baking spice in the background. Really complex, fresh and lively. This will go for years and years. A joy to drink!

Small world. I just picked up this week 2 bottles of Phelan Segur 1990! Thanks for the note Dusty.
Nothing last week as just filled out a case from the prior week. Debating if I will begin case number 3… or add to my 4 mags purchased over the winter.
93 Heitz Bella Oaks and week before 96 Prum Graacher Kabinett.
I had this wine once when a friend brought it to a tasting dinner, and I subsequently searched out a bottle on Winebid. Both bottles were amazing – one of the greatest California pinots.
As a sometimes seller on Winebid, I say “go snipers, go!”
Yeh, it was awesome. I gave a taste to our waiter and he said “ohhhh, I gotta let the manager try this”.
I see that West Block retails for the mid $100 range now. When I bought it off winebid maybe 3-4 years ago, I think it was $85++.
Last week I snagged an 83 Cakebread Cab in magnum for my birthday this Saturday. Should be fun.
2 bottles of 1994 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks to THIS thread: '94 Mondavi Napa Cab - excellent! - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers
2 x 2004 Rhys Home Vineyard Pinot Noir
The website is recommending that one drink this wine now, but I am curious to see how Rhys Pinots age, so I may pop one soon-ish and leave the other one for another 5-10 years (n.b. I prefer Burgs with a lot of age).
'05 Ecard SlB Serpentieres.
'04 Bond Matriarch and Harlan Maiden ( wondering if these second wines are incredible or crap)
'03 Sociando- Mallet
'05 Carbonnieux Blanc
My WineBid picks get ever more random. Last month it was all R-M and Rhys and copain with a few years on them, before that some old Ridge… Someone sell some nice old Loires…
