In other wine film news, there’s a flick coming out on Robert Parker, with the working title: “The First Emperor” … http://www.decanter.com/news/201337.html” onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"The [Parker] film is in its early stages but it is understood casting is underway with Sideways star Paul Giamatti as Michel Rolland, British star Dame Helen Mirren as Jancis Robinson, and Hugh Grant taking the role of Leoville Barton proprietor Anthony Barton.
This is the latest in a line of high-profile wine films, by far the most successful of which is 2004’s Sideways. January this year saw the release of Bottle Shock, starring Alan Rickman as Steven Spurrier, and a film about the 1976 Paris tasting, Judgment of Paris, is in development."
Are these for real??? Never heard of “Bottle Shock”!
the dialogue and story line (outside of the paris tasting) was terrible in Bottle Shock, but I still found it to a be a fun little movie. Key is to not take it too seriously. Plus, Alan Rickman has got such a presence and demeanor about him, especially when he does comedy. Such a great actor.
Bottle Shock was pure unadulterated crap. And that is before we got to how it trashed the actual story it was based on. Can’t wait for the real version to come out I believe later this year.
For the record I never said bottle shock was great, but I didnt like sideways as much. Didnt think either was great or crap. I watched them for entertainment, not for historical documentation or learning. I felt that watching that blonde dumping water all over herself was hotter than Lul buffing the Asian girl, how that?
I thought Bottle Shock was just entertaining enough to watch it all the way through. I have to say that it was odd that Mike Grgich was not a part (or even mentioned) in the movie as being the Montelena winemaker that made the Chardonnay…
Sideways was awesome (and previously mentioned Giamatti brilliant), but found it bizarre that the movie was billed (by many) as a comedy. It certainly wasn’t that to me…
