Regardless of what one thinks of either Parker or Leve, the remarkable thing to me is that a merchant would try to move merchandise based on the notes of an Internet wine site moderator…
I don’t want to get all wound up, but he made the statement that he was the most imporant BDX blogger on ERP way back when. Manlin even had the quote in his sig line for some time. It was removed afterwards as so many of his posts are deleted and/or edited after the fact. Good luck finding any reference to him saying that BDX prices would NEVER come down.
Yeah, this is a guy that needs to be taken seriously when deciding on where to spend your wine dollars.
I got an email blast from an online merchant which had a TN rating of CT97. I check CT and there is one TN of 97 points, hardly convincing. Whatever will sell will sell. They’ll throw the kitchen sink atcha.
Scouring wine websites, I have seen reviews from eBob posters and other non-professional fans of wines before. As long as they are properly attributed (i.e. joe, a Wine berserker member etc), I do not see a problem with that. Matt Raney once famously saw a shelf talker with his name printed on it.
Having said that, my own personal opinion for this particular circumstance mirrors that of Paul’s response.
