The Most Expensive Release From Oz Ever?

From Wine Spectator Insider:

Seppeltsfield
Tawny Port Barossa Valley Para 100 Year Old 1908
98 points | $1,800/375ml | NA cases made | Dessert
A symphony in a glass. Thick and viscous. Dark brown in color, bordering on black. An explosive array of aged aromas—from earth to spice to dried berries to sweet tobacco—turns a bit tangy in the mouth to balance the syrupy sweetness, hinting at grapefruit
peel and burnt edges of roasted meat as the finish lingers. Drink now. From Australia.—H.S.

Holy sticky pricing, Batman!

Easy pass. [whistle2.gif]

It’s either 3 X 750mL Screagle or a half…hmmmm.

Who wants to split a case with me? Think about the money we can make flipping these babies!!

Drink now??? So these won’t even age? [swoon.gif]

Hey man, if I’m plunking down that much moolah…that mofo better last longer than rare cream in a Chinatown noodle shop.

I’m only interested if they have a Jeroboam

Of course the price is absurd, but I will say that these older Para “ports” are really, really good. Also I don’t recall the exact vintage, but when I was there last year I definitely recall some vintages available in the tasting room going back nearly this far (at least 80 years) for a fraction of the price (I seem to remember between $100-$200/btl).

Ya know what? On further reflection, I think that must be a typo by WS. Wine-search has this same bottle, available in AU, for $286.55US. Similarly old vintages reflect similar prices - around $200, more or less. Heck, there is even an 1880 out there for less than $1k…

Typo. They go for about $200. Are they worth it? Not to me, and I’m a dessert wine freak.
YMMV

While I’ve not had this particular stickie, I’ve had a good number of their other fortified wines. All I can say is IMO some of the scores given them are way to much. They are overly sweet and lacking in acidity…basically big sugar and raisin bombs. Even for my sweet tooth and love of Ports, I can’t have more than a glass or so before they just become overwhelming. They are decent, but IMO to simple for the praise they recieve.

That’s RMP and many at the Speculator. Big sweet hunter gatherer wines.
