Hey Truett! @T_Welch You’re right, carneros is south west of Elkhorn Peak, thanks for catching that. I updated my comment.
I’m brand new to Wine Berserkers, we just discovered this very cool community back in mid-December. I’m still getting my footing and trying to learn my way around, but we’re excited to be here!! ![]()
A great write up! Thank you for including us and all of your hard work getting all of us micro wineries out there in the public sphere. Have a fruitful 2023!

It’s like society at large - the super rich can afford to run through all the hoops, widen roads, comply, and the small family businesses get f-ed over. Always the little guy who gets it in the throat. The more I do this, the more I hate all the paperwork. I pay a person over $5K/year just in compliance paperwork for all this bureaucracy. It’s insane.
@J_Patrick_Lynch Thanks for posting our latest writeup to this thread! I’m curious to get the berserker communities thoughts on the Napa Valley Micro-Producer verification we’re launching. The article touched on it at the very end…do you think this emblem is something meaningful? Do you think the wine consumer community would be interested in embracing these verifications? We published a press release on the Save the Family Farms website explaining the verification here: https://www.savethefamilyfarms.com/post/press-release-verified-napa-valley-micro-producer-designation
@Adam_Frisch would love to get your input on the new verification too.

So is having lunch or dinner at a local restaurant with a Vintner or representative a code violation?
Salvestrin 3D Dr crane Cabernet 2015 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted. They make around 250 cases a year and are just now getting the publicity they deserve…… highly recommend. If you do ever have the pleasure of drinking this be sure to taste it once upon opening and then give it some air time (in then bottle is fine) it develops wildly over 4-5 hours
Had a 2019 of that wine during the Holidays. Very impressive stuff ![]()
Isn’t theirs priced WELL below all others?
Very much so……. However It has definitely gone up in price since its recent climb to fame.
But still very well priced compared to its neighbors, beckstoffer, tor, etc. They definitely over deliver on quality.
Love hearing that! Have a 2012 that I’m planning to hold for quite a while.
Also have a 2022 Petite Sirah that i dont plan on touching for a long, LONG time
No, it has to do with on-site wine consumption. Without the “proper” permits at a vineyard site, the public is not allowed to visit, drink wine or purchase wine. Meeting at a local restaurant means youre not at the vineyard.
Update 3/20/25: The Micro-Winery Ordinance in Napa County was passed as a 3-year pilot and is scheduled to be extended, modified, or sunset on May 5, 2025. There’s been a lot of discussion about what changes should/need to be made so that the ordinance is usable for small wine businesses in Napa County. To-date only 2 Micro-Wineries have been able to obtain a permit since the passage of the ordinance in 2022. We argue this is a sign the ordinance has failed the small business community. Here’s the local coverage for anyone interested in reading: [Napa County looks at tweaking microwinery law to aid small family-run wineries](Napa County looks at tweaking microwinery law to aid small family-run wineries) Basically, all this to say – continue to seek out and support the Micro-Wineries on this list.
Thank you so much for being a champion for the little guys! My wife and I run a small vineyard and winery on Mount George called Sown Estate. We are very lucky to have a winery permit that allows us to produce up to 4,800 gallons annually, however, we are forbidden to import any fruit to our winery from outside our estate (even from within Napa). With our 5 acres of old vines we will never come close to producing the 4,800 gallons we are allowed (we currently only produce about 1,000 gallons from our estate yields). Additionally, our narrow mountain road does not allow for any visitation according to the county. Hoping the micro-winery movement continues to push for changes that make the realities of running a micro winery more feasible. Happy to be a part of the movement to preserve family winemaking in Napa Valley!
Visited Calistoga for the 1st time in June and had a bottle of 2009 Barlow Cabernet Sauvignon at Lovina. The restaurant had nothing but great things to say about the winery and family.
@EliseNerlove in the news
I like Barlow. Nothing spectacular, but solid wines. Their Merlot’s and Cabs are good.
Dont sleep on the Barlow Cab Franc
