I’m not sure that’s the case, but newer producers are always great.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of PYCM reds, I’ve tended to prefer Caroline Morey more.
Not wk, but while the newer Ramonet may not hit the heights of the much older bottlings, i think they’re very good, as I think it’s a very important site to the family.
Never had it and never heard of anyone who has. Overall I’ve found the Gagnard family to make very affordable wines that aren’t necessarily bad, but rarely make anyone’s top list. They are less expensive for a reason.
For what it’s worth, CT says I’ve had the 2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean Rouge, once in 2019 and I was not charmed (green and lean). CT also says I have 1 bottle left in my Montreal cellar.
I can only speak to JNG and as of the more recent BLANC vintages they are rock’n and undervalued compared to others (I have not found that to be the case in older vintages). My comments are for 1er and the Batard. This is 2019+
I have not had the same experiences with their Pinot but have had much less experience with them for a reason.
Just had a glass of 2021 Sylvain Morey CM VV last night. It was Coravin’d out of a fresh bottle and yet was amazingly open right out of the gate. Lovely, crunchy red fruits and ultra smooth tannins. Very delightful if a bit simple, but really showcased the better parts of CM rouge.
Never heard of this Domaine before. Is it closely related to the other Moreys?
I tried the barrel samples last year. Hopefully they have filled in a bit and are more enjoyable now that they have a lot more time in barrel and bottle. ‘21 is not a homogeneous vintage and that is putting it lightly.
The neighboring vintages, especially the whites were delicious.
Used to be stupidly cheap, I think their white and red village wines were around £30 and £28 only 2-3 years ago. Their Santenay 1er cuvee is also really nice.
I had first tried to order the 2022 Blain-Gagnard CM rouge and they had just killed that bottle, so they tapped this one for me. I was looking forward to trying that one since we were just talking about it.
I’ve found the Blain-Gagnard Chassagne Rouges that I’ve tried to be quite good but certainly not on the Moreau or Ramonet level. They’re a bit darker fruited, similar to Niellon, but not quite as structured.
