I don’t think Carter actually makes a pinot? And I think Cobb is about the only one currently making a Doc’s Ranch Pinot? At least from what I can see. Feels like the KF Carter is more likely and we’ve seen KF as a mystery before. I’m in for one, hoping for the 2023 but could all be a massive misdirection for sure.
Cobb Pinot have been seen in West Coast Costco’s at the $50 price point if that’s any suggestion of the producers willingness to make adjustments for current market conditions
Have some wines queued for shipment and can mostly see what the mystery wines are. A lot more mysteries than usual for me. Had some good success with OR mysteries over the last year, so went deep there and the brunello offers are usually solid. At first glance the brunello’s don’t excite me too much but pretty happy overall with the OR wines. Eyes wide open when ordering so now we’ll just see how they taste.
2/14 - Brunello, $49 - '19 Podere Brizio
4/16 - 2021 Brunello mystery, $40 - '21 Ventolaio
5/7 - Willamette Valley PN Single Vineyard, $59 - '22 Kelley Fox Freedom Hill (excited for this but already have some in the cellar so a little less so)
7/4 - 4th of July! 2023 California Cab, $20 - '23 Jessup (not sure if Mendocino or Napa, I see both in CT. meh)
7/9 - Willamette Valley Single Vineyard PN, $29 - '23 Broadley Vineyards Jessica (guessing I’ll like this one)
8/14 - 2021 Brunello, $24 - '21 Adagio
8/20 - Willamette Valley: The Top Deal of 2026!, $20 - '23 Domaine Roy (solid)
9/4 - The Holy Grail of Domestic Pinot Noir, $57 - '23 Kelley Fox Carter (discussed above and a couple were on the KF Carter. Certainly what I was hoping for. Wish I had ordered more than 1 here for sure)
This was the correct answer.
Good for whoever bought it. I guess Rimmerman was more straight forward than usual with the clues and I’m out of touch since I unsubscribed a few months ago.
2023 Troix Noix Cab Franc. On the edge of fresh and oaked. It’s a little fresher than I like but that’s a heck of a wine for $18.
Sold out. Merlot up now for $17.
Their cab up now…I didn’t bite on account of my boycott of garagiste, but the price and quality of product here are nuts. 3 Nuts offers…pun intended.
I have been ignoring most Garagiste emails, only opening them infrequently and last having purchased from him nearly a year ago… and then I see your note pop into my Inbox and I bit.
I rarely drink Napa, but this seems like a Cab I’ll really enjoy. At just over $30/btl delivered…
Re: The Crazy Mixed Case! Not to be Missed! The Crazy Mixed Case (12 x 750ml) · $189.76
On a couple of occasions about 10 years ago I purchased mystery cases and thought they represented solid value if open to a curious selection. Experience shows that the buyer should expect the bottles in this $190 case to range in retail price from about $15 - $25 with a single $40-$100 bottle likely included.
I most definitely don’t need more random, good-quality, moderately-priced wine in my cellar, but for those looking for a decent grab bag value, I think it’s probably worth the punt.
Noticed this in the Sunday Snapshot 10/4: Domestic Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Mystery 750ml (USA) · $56.71
For whatever reason that price stood out to me as the same price as the Holy Grail Mystery price (Kelley Fox Carter). Decided to roll the dice and order 2. Showing up in my pending shipment as the KF Carter so the hunch was correct ![]()
I should probably forget it worked out this way so I don’t get burned down the road but happy to have a couple more on the way for sure.
