The Garagiste Thread (The Great Enabler) Back to Life

Yeah, I got mine this past week too! I got a bottle of 2019 Top Source Red from Garagiste about 6 months ago, and it’s fairly good! Good enough to serve to friends and smile at what you paid!

Do we agree that today’s Gran Selezione mystery sounds a lot like Rancia given prior mysteries?

What’s the price (I don’t get Garagiste emails anymore).

$48.70

drank last night not bad. for the price a bargain

Any thoughts on the source of today’s Ca’ Rozzeria Barolo Fossati? Not a ton of producers but some I’d rather not have. Wondering if anyone has a thought on source based on prior mystery or C’R offerings. Will probably pass, but a good buy at that price if it is one of the better producers.

My suspicion is that it is Icardi, as they recently offered a Ca’ Rozzeria Barbaresco Starderi and the only producer making a Starderi and seeming likely to sell to Garagiste was Icardi. I don’t know anything about that producer.

They’ve white labeled Icardi in the past, so that’s a good guess.

If that is true, Jon is flat out lying about the $100+ price.

Yeah, the thing about that is the wording of “material that is usually $100” and “lowest price we can find for the branded wine in any vintage… is $110+.” How are they searching for the pricing? W-S? W-S pro? Google? I basically searched each of the Fossati producers and those prices don’t align with any. Most are available for under $100 with the exception of Voerzio, which is not in the correct ballpark, and Bussolo, who is also not really in the same ballpark. Borgogno could fit but even then there are bottles on W-S pro for less than $100. Icardi and Adelaide are the closest match, and given they recently offered the Starderi, which only Icardi of this bunch makes, it seems likely to be Icardi. FWIW, W-S shows only one listing for Icardi, the 2016, from Redneck Wines, for $119, so if that was the extent of one’s search, it would be a true statement. I don’t know much about that producer, can’t even tell if they are modern or not, so would not really be too interested in that wine, but at $36 I’m sure many will be happy almost regardless of who it is.

Lapo Berti

Considered that, as I’d received another offer yesterday for the Berti, la Morra and Fossati, but (a) prices don’t align as the 2019 is available at $210 a mag, and (b) recent offer of Starderi makes me think Icardi. The fact that they’ve also done Icardi in the past would reinforce that suspicion. Would definitely have bought if I thought it was Berti.

Cool offer today with 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1990 Bordeaux.

Unfortunately my track record with older Garagiste wines is pretty abysmal, so I’m skipping this one.

Examples?

Last one was 2005 Cap de Mourlin, all 4 were cooked.

Im not claiming thats common thing, but its been common enough to me that I rather just skip them.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

This mystery offer from June 6 is showing as “arrived.” By chance has anyone picked theirs up and can tell us what it is? Thanks.

I ordered one, but have not picked it up.

Today’s Reynvaan looks highly promising if cellartracker reviews can be trusted.

I had 1 reynvaan wine, loved it, and immediately bought 3 of these.

Gigondas for $20 with a “legitimate 95pt Gigondas (not a Decanter 95)” LOL! But does look intriguing.
