2022
We did a PMR Cab tasting a couple years ago, with vertical of Ceritas, Birichino, DeGolia-Kamb (non-commercial Ray family group) plus a Jamie Motley. My takeaway is buy them all and give them at least 5 years, since the younger ones were shut down.
Yes, the vineyard is marked, so the vines are allocated to specific wineries. The L-block is the most distinct, as it ripens later. For contrast, Rob picked his new stuff 20 days before the L-block (and before others picked). I dont have final numbers, but both seemed around 22.5 brix.
Todays Cab offer is a great example of something youll very likely be disappointed with.
I ordered one just for a laugh and to see what it is.
Rare to see a blurb that uses every single Garagiste Red Flag. Fun to see what it ends up being.
Look forward to hearing what it is!
Haha yep!
It is the…
DeLille Metier 2021.
Like I said, I bought it just to laugh and see what it is, and I am laughing. Lol! Thankfully I only bought one. Nothing he said was incorrect, but the same comments could have been said about almost any wine in the region.
“VERY famous winery – among the most famous in the entire region.”
“Additional critical notoriety beyond the ratings.”
" This wine is not from Alexander Valley, Atlas Peak, Paso Robles, Lake County, Walla Walla, Lodi or Calistoga.
• This is the exact same wine, bottle, label, cork and contents as what trades out in the nethersphere as we type this…for up to circa $30-35!"
Anyway, other mysteries:
2021 Tuscany Red Wine Mystery 750ml (Tuscany)
Castello Romitorio Toscana IGT “Romitorio” 2021
It’s the same price as from wine.com if you count their free shipping. Bleh, but likely a drinkable wine.
2021 Bordeaux Blanc 750ml (Bordeaux)
Chevalier Valette Bordeaux Blanc 2021
Bulk Bordeaux Blanc at roughly mainstream prices.
Mystery White Wine 750ml (Earth)
2022 Tiny Trials Chardonnay Viu Manent 750ml (Chile)
Decent deal compared to prices available online, time will tell if it’s worth it.
Chablis 1er Mystery 750ml (Burgundy)
2022 Lamblin Vaillon 1er cru chablis
This is a good deal. not the greatest producer but for $30 easily worth it.
Chablis 1er Mystery 750ml (Burgundy) (this is from 2023)
Benjamin Laroche Cote de lechet 2022
Another good deal.

Cabernet Sauvignon: October Extravaganza…$13+!
Dear Friends,
Extravaganza?
Big word.
Well, this is a big deal.
How many bottles of domestic Cabernet Sauvignon have 4 x 90pt (or more) notes - from a wide array of critical palates - and also trade for $13+?
From a great vintage?
One.
This one.
We’re not sure what to say about this insane deal but the 4 x 90pt notes are not where the accolades end. This wine also has additional notoriety, with top billing in another critical list plus it hails from a single AVA – not a hodgepodge of fruit (it is actually nearly all a single vineyard wine)…and the community average is also at least 90pts (so, we could almost say this has 5 x 90pt notes or averages!)
To cap it off, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, not an 80% Cabernet with Merlot and other “filler”.
Oh…the vintage is also stellar.
So, let’s recap:
• 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
• 4 x 90pt notes (or higher…and there are multiple “higher”).
• Additional critical notoriety beyond the ratings.
• VERY famous winery – among the most famous in the entire region.
• Fruit from nearly all one single vineyard (not a hodgepodge).
• Great vintage (this is not a 2017 or 2020).
• Community average of at least 90pts as well.
• This wine is not from Alexander Valley, Atlas Peak, Paso Robles, Lake County, Walla Walla, Lodi or Calistoga.
• This is the exact same wine, bottle, label, cork and contents as what trades out in the nethersphere as we type this…for up to circa $30-35!
• The Mystery tab below is…
…$13+ instead.
(with original/pristine provenance - directly from the winery holding pen, this is not an also-ran parcel!)
As far as “go-to” holiday/office party/wedding/event bottles are concerned, it may be time to stock up!

And my comment was:

Rare to see a blurb that uses every single Garagiste Red Flag. Fun to see what it ends up being… Looks like I was 100% right.

Thanks.
The 21 DeLille Metier has been at the local Costco for months at $14 or so, and pretty sure it’s the same price at Total Wine.
Re: 2021 Bordeaux Blanc 750ml (Bordeaux)
Chevalier Valette Bordeaux Blanc 2021
Bulk Bordeaux Blanc at roughly mainstream prices: I grabbed three of these and the head scratcher for me was Rimmerman’s claim that these are from a ‘very famous chateau’ or something along those lines. I tried one and couldn’t get past a weird mustard note. Gave the other two away.
Agree. Definitely in the “miss” category.
As per usual, the Italian and Chablis were good, but these mysteries were complete waste of time.
It’s kind of like playing the lottery - you know you aren’t going to win, but it’s fun to consider that maybe you will, because it’s at least possible.
In Italy, Chablis, you generally win, the win %age varies, but you wont see many losses.
It’s the “Earth” category where you are practically playing russian roulette with a semi-automatic pistol.
Doyenne also showed up as a Mystery wine, as did Gramercy Cellars Lower East. Good wineries, just not their stronger showing.
A really unexpected Mystery wine is an aged Santa Barbara County PN. 2013 Native9.
One from the “Earth” category was 2021 Luna Beberide Bierzo Art.
I bought 2 bottles of that one. I’m happy with it but the price was not worth the risk of buying a mystery wine.
Has anyone bought a $90-100 mystery offer from Garagiste before? Was it good?
The single vyd Cab Sauv offer from last night intrigues me because it is minimal information ( @Mikko_Tuomi said those are the best).
$150-250 Cab for $95 (most likely Napa), that’s me all day long….
Wines filled in above. Turns out BOTH of the Mystery CdP were CSM - $20 mystery CdP being one of the easiest to guess.
Todays Garagiste offer is 100% to be skipped btw. De L’Ile Margaux is a $20 wine, and 2004 is a vintage that should only be bought very selectively. Avoid like cancer.
I bought it. 20 years old and recent CT reviews are positive.
Mystery California Chardonnay 6/7/24 $19.96 Friday Circus Mystery
