Overall a bunch of <$20 wines I’d never have paid money for, and two 06’s that have a little more value and interest.
Caveat emptor indeed. I’ve had hits and misses. Can’t even imagine what the $2000 mixed case would have been. Anyone go for that???

i can’t believe he still had those Substance wines & is packing them into these boxes.

So it was basically annoying to find those in the box so I Pobega’d one so I wouldn’t have to look at it ever again. Very good, well balanced syrah with some light meaty notes. A wine I would normally like. So I can’t act too disappointed. And I love taking a flyer on $20 wines, but I was hoping for something a bit less bargain-basement…

Don’t let the M.Ilan thread overtake this one. [snort.gif]

The question is: how do you FEEL about your $250 case?

The Bunchen spatlese is flat and boring. Simple and sweet. Avoid it.

Not bad at all

Yea I think I got some in my mixed whites case from earlier this year, was passable with some Thai food.

Anybody care to make a wager on the Barolo or Barbaresco mystery wine for $20? Plenty of hype, as expected, but I’m curious since obviously it’s pretty rough to find nice Nebbiolo for a reasonable price tag.

With no label, how will we know?

I think the irony that today’s Full Pull offer is for a $24.99 Barbaresco without made up stories about fake soccer games, watching cases on trucks etc.

I have a hundred other ways to throw my money away… And know what I’m getting

$21.99! I’ve enjoyed the Tintero in the past, and will happily buy more instead of a pig in a poke from Garagiste.

Drank a Garagiste-sourced 2012 Vindent Paris Granit 30 tonight. Was some excellent young Syrah. A La Ca’ Nova Barbaresco was very good and worthy of aging (mystery wine). A 2006 Vodopivec Orange wine from northern Italy was fascinating but not worth $30-sometging.
Overall, hit or miss but mostly hit. I can’t say I’ve been disappointed. Except with the value on the $250 mystery case…

For all you haters, I figured I’d post my $250 Garagiste Mystery case, too… I took it a step further though and looked up the average cellartracker price for each one, and post it here next to the wine. At first I was somewhat disappointed with the case as I’ve had many of these wines, though all are decent… some are wines I wouldn’t have otherwise purchased but look really interesting, which is the point that I was after with the mystery. I have a far higher hit rate with Garagiste than all the haters, but perhaps I’ve just figured out how to weed through the prose and find where my palate genuinely aligns with Jon’s.

So… from a pure dollar value standpoint, I saved $100 over what people otherwise bought these wines from Garagiste for. So it does seem to be a dollar value, but not a huge one. I’m familiar with most of the wines, and am quite excited about some… the Cotes du Rhone will go down the drain (or do a unsuspecting victim). Not sure I’ll buy the Mystery case again… but probably. It’s fun, and there’s really only two losers in this batch (CdR & Buchen). Beau, your case looks pretty good! Bourdy Chateau Chalon! That’s a $90 wine.

Also, I’m the fool who went for the 2010 Barbaresco mystery wine. Multiple cases. Mmmm that’s gonna be good.

I think a lot of retailers would happily put together $250 “mystery” (get these bin ends out of here) mixed cases.

Yes, indeed that is their point in it. If “many” retailers would be happy to then they should. If people buy them they’ll continue to do it. Clearly that’s the case with Garagiste. People buy it. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. Always the case. That’s open commerce.

I’ve noticed the mystery wine packaging spreading to Lot 18 and other on line retailers.
I did once spring for a Garagiste mystery case that turned out to be at retail prices twice what I paid, but half the wines I didn’t want at any price.

I am pretty happy with my case, and unless they turn out to be horribly flawed (brett, VA, EA, etc) I will keep having a nice success rate with Garagiste.

I did skip the 2010 Barbaresco.
