Some years ago we had a tour of their wine cellar - magnificent. Also a very nice wine list to look for aged beauties.
For NYC dwellers, its worth the black car ride.

I was excited to open this thread when I saw it posted. I know many of the people and enjoyed the article, thanks for posting.
Marty, you are wasting your eloquent words. You will never get a caring response from Bill.
Thank you for shining an even brighter light on some of these great folks.
For the record, no anger, Marty. I simply gave my opinion of Levi’s article. That opinion remains unchanged by what I have read here. By the way, Steve C. made the first mention of Glenn 34 posts into this thread. Levi made no mention of Glenn at all, and I commented only on Levi’s original work, nothing else, so you and Eric need to follow the bouncing ball. And wrong, Eric, Marty gets a caring response for his emotional telling of a 9/11 story. I see that as something very different from Levi’s article, which has nothing to do with Glenn or Marty’s story. Marty, you have the wrong villain this time around.
And finally, I am delighted to see that you are already off suicide watch after yesterday’s game!
Over and out, and no amount of baiting by you or Yaacov will bring me back, Eric…
.
Thanks for the telling of the story, Marty. I knew parts, but not all of it. After 9-11 and time off, Glenn eventually went back to Kittlehouse. For anyone who has spent time with him, you would know that he is a very kind and interesting gentleman and he loves to talk wine, regardless of your price point.
I brought up the fact that I was surprised that he wasn’t mentioned, given his former affiliation with many of the eight restaurants’ wine programs.
My experience is similar. I don’t live in NYC but I’ve been to a few of the places mentioned, as well as a few wine-centric restaurants in other cities. Most of my new wine “discoveries” can be attributed to friends and online wine boards, with retailers after that and sommeliers barely registering.
Did NYC sommeliers get importers to bring in grower Champagnes, Jura, etc. or were they instrumental in getting the word out by putting them on their lists and talking them up?
Glenn is indeed a gentleman, and extremely knowledgeable about the wine he serves. To be honest though, even though the River Market is closer than Kittle House, the list is much newer, and my taste runs to older wines, so I tend to go to KH.
KH in itself is a serious wine lover’s destination, and Glenn in turn, trained a couple of top class sommeliers, Gustavo recently retired, and leo, both under the radar, because KH is not in Manhattan.
Pretty ridiculous to link 911 to someone’s post on this thread.
A big +1 for Glenn. Huge fan of him.
I am not sure why you would say that. It’s an article about the New York wine scene, and the people who made much of what goes on now possible.
Most of those mentioned were part of that 9/11 era and the aftermath, and for many, it was a turning point in their careers and lives.
Maybe because 911 was not mentioned in the article?
Part of the reason for having a discussion board is the original post is a starting point. People chime in with ideas, memories, stupidities etc.
I fixed it for you.
Marty - Thanks for the geography lesson. I had no idea. And since we are talking lessons here, Levi provides a good one for you in the article. Read over it again. He doesn’t talk about the attacks on the Twin Towers.
Great article
this place is really weird now.
