The Agave Thread: Tequila & Mezcal

Very polished products. Smooth and easy drinking. Definitely fit a profile.

I wouldn’t pay for them, but I also wouldn’t turn down if offered a glass.

Yeah that’s basically what I want in tequila; I like clase and tears a lot. I won’t drink any clear tequila fwiw.

I’d look at some Cristalinos too, Dobel 50 is in this style and not punitively priced as is RDLF Cristalino both are rich but not plodding.

Think I mentioned it upthread, but Coramino Reposado for the $ is hard to beat, I’d put it up against brands 2x its cost.

You like what you like, but if you make fun of caymus and mega purple. Then proceed to pay a Fortune for dragones or clase you are committing the same crime.

I think people that like caymus should drink it. I couldn’t give less fucks about what people think is the best or most authentic tequila; I want to buy ones I enjoy drinking.

Hey, as long as you know you’re paying a 300% upcharge for adding splenda and wood chips, all the more power to you

Yeah I agree completely.

Also I’m well aware alcohol in any form is pretty bad for you but I switched to tequila due to its effect on my head while drinking. Seems to put me in a good mood as opposed to other brown liquor.

So I try and drink the purest form, and there are a lot of well made additive free tequilas.

Tears is a good example

I like tears too, but sometimes I’m not necessarily in the mood for a XA.

I found Tears unenjoyable caramel/vanilla & smoke.

Helado already abundant here.

Any anejo or x anejo your go to?

Forteleza, tears, clase anejo, gonna check out the dragones anejo.

Fan of the first 2.

So much stuff out there, love trying to find under the radar.

All the codigo products are prob my favorite

I found that el tesoro is a great brand for people who want a smooth rich sweet tequila without additives. Would recommend over dragones any day

I have a bottle of the anejo; the shop in CA canceled my order of the dragones anejo :rage:

Great shop in the Bay area, mostly whiskey but they have an entire wall of additive free tequila and a quarterly tequila club.

(he doesn’t want additive free)

That isn’t true. He likes a style that is more rounded and some may be AF some may not be.

A lot of styles out there and not one is “right” its just “right for you”.

I should have phrased it better- ‘he doesn’t mind if it has additives’

Cascahuin Plata last night with NCAA game out at big expat bar. Had two and then bartender poured me a Feliz Año Nuevo third.

The tits.

You can get that style two ways in most cases, I have found.

  1. Legally allowed additives (glycerin)
  2. Cask finishes

#2 is why I said Coramino Repo as the 4 casks (particularly the brandy and moscatel finishes) + addition of XA impart the roundness Michael seems to favor without additives unless you consider the barrel an additive, which it really is when its a specialty finish and brandy and moscatel will leach into the liquid.
