Thai food Saturday night. Help me decide which wine

We’re off to Queens NY for Thai food this Saturday night.

Which of the following works best?

2006 Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Saering

2007 Sineann Gewürztraminer Celilo Vineyard

2007 St. Urbans-Hof Riesling

2007 Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling Dry

I will bring a 2006 Prager Winery and Port Works Riesling Sweet Claire Late Harvest to enjoy after dinner. Or, maybe this should be the dinner wine??

Here’s one vote for…drum roll…

2006 Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Saering

Color me jealous. I’d go with the Gewurz. I’m thinking Cali Gewurz will have that extra ripeness and body, and maybe a little RS even, to counter Sripraphai.

Dan - I would go with the Sinnean Gewurtztraminer especially if it has a small amount of residual sugar.

If not I would go with the Schlumberger then the St Urbans-Hof Riesling

I definitely think RS helps with the heat/spice in the food. Of course beer works great too

we’ll also be there Saturday.
Go with Spatlese or Gerwurz. You need Residual sugar
ask for your food…Thai spicy.

The Riesling with the most RS. Any spice will set off the alcohol in any Cali Gewurz. Most are pretty high in percentage whether you notice the heat or not when tasted.

Schlumberger

Riesling, Riesling or Riesling. More rs is good.

A voice of dissent. I’d take the St. Urban’s Hof because 1) I happen to think Gewurztraminer clashes with a lot of Thai food, 2) I generally prefer Germans to Alsatians with Thai food, and 3) St. Urban’s Hof is a kick-ass little bottle of food friendly Riesling for thirteen bucks.

Care to guess where I bought this? neener

I’m not sure what time we’ll arrive. Two couples. My wifes friend has litle Orphan Annie red/curly hair. Stop by if you’re interested in a taste.

The Wine Connection…I know the owner.

Here’s a hint Daniel…

I tasted this at a charity event in Rye. [oops.gif]

Go early or be prepared to wait.
Also, their glasses are pretty poor.
I’ll look for you.

I second Melissa. German riesling, to me, is a better match.

It’s really hard to taste anything when your mouth is on fire. [swoon.gif] I did catch some vanilla.
This wine was a nice offset to the heat of the food. Almost fruit punch-ish.
Thumbs up from my wife and friends. I think I’ll buy more.
