Opened a second bottle of their 2010 Laurel Pinot noir today and I’m smitten. Anyone else digging their wine or their philosophy? I’ve got Pinot meunière and Alsea Pinot coming soon.
I like them a lot. Very unique, excellent take on Pinot Gris and a Rose Pinot Noir. I’m interested to taste some of their direct import Sekt Riesling as well.
Should have mentioned that I bought their Ackermann Zeltinger Riesling QbA. Decent wine for the cash, about $12, perhaps more sweet than I had anticipated.
I worked for/with Barnaby Tuttle in the Alsea Vineyard this summer doing cluster and leaf thinning. Small vineyard, cool climate, low impact viticulture, should be a good indicator of terroir-driven wines. Great guy, respectable vini/viti philosophy and sharp wines. Definitely one of the producers to watch in Oregon. Not to mention the German import portfolio he is bringing in.
I’ve been a lover of their Riesling for a while, but that 2010 ‘Laurel Vineyard’ Pinot Noir is freaking awesome. So light and easy to drink, yet with enough interesting characteristics that it just tickles the wine-nerd side of my brain.
It’s the first Pinot Noir I’ve ever called “breakfast wine”. Usually what classification is for low abv Rieslings
