On a side note, I walked over to my Burgundy section and found several producers that weren’t in the U.S. years ago who are highly regarded now by various critics.
Indignant, not indigent. I said nothing about your financial condition. Indignant means “feeling or showing anger or annoyance at what is perceived as unfair treatment.” Are you disputing that characterization of your tone in this thread?
And no, the general “you” was not clearly evident, since you addressed your post to me by name.
Well, which part of "indignant’ are you disputing? Are you saying that you haven’t showed any annoyance at Thiese’s comments, or that Thiese’s comments were fair?
You know, I hope, Lyle, that I have quite enjoyed in the past sharing posts with you and the one time we were able to meet in person, also a pleasure.
I have followed at least the first part of the thread with interest up to this statement. I think, when I read Terry’s quote, that yes, it could be seen as a shot, but I think it may be somewhat of a long-distance without-telescopic sights-and-Olympic-caliber-shooter shot. Is there no room for an interpretation that what he’s stating is that no great producer can exist/be successful without having a U.S. importer (not specifying identity of importer)? I admit to being able to see and concede that maybe it doesn’t, and that he is saying that anyone who is new at importing will find only barren ground and, in that case, I would probably consider that potentially on the myopic side of things. I only ask whether alternate interpretations might be admissible.
To the general point, I think I can safely believe that yes, there are very likely to be fine producers yet to be born, yet to be raised, yet to be created, who will be able to make phenomenal wine that can be discovered. So I do prefer your statement, I think.
The funny thing is Cory, we would surely get along in person. Also you Allan. Even me and bueker get a long IRL. These boards are like people trapped elevators. There is no exit. Very Becket like this thread has gotten. Cory I object to name calling. Whether it is right or wrong is of no consequence to me. Name calling is what I object to.
Also worth noting that every producer Lyle imports already obviously has a U.S. importer (Lyle), and so wouldn’t be included in Theise’s criticism of producers who don’t have U.S. importers.
