Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

I’m with you. I think over the next 6-12 months, anyone with cash and cellar space will be able to build up a nice stock pile.

Appreciate the tip to check out Zachy’s sale. The pickings looked a bit thin by the time I looked, but managed to pick up a couple of bottles of aged Marsala at a significant discount.

Binny’s Oakbrook has a Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Masseto 2018 1.5L for $1,295. Pretty good price for a large format.

2013 Forman Mag for $190 (winebid)

For those in the twin cities, haskell’s has some sales on Yquem which seem quite good, especially for 2003 which is $299/750 mL.

TBH, 2003 is the most disappointing d’Yquem I could imagine and I’m predisposed to like it since it’s my wedding year. Flabby and cloyingly sweet.

Idk we just had it a couple weeks ago and it was quite good, not as good as 86/88 but pretty good.

I’m in the camp that likes 2003 Yquem. It’s not 1988 (nothing in the past few decades can beat 1988…), but it’s well balanced for a 2003 and I think it’s aging well. I’m holding onto most of mine for a while longer.

Idk, I personally prefer 83 and 89 to 88, and MUCH prefer 01 to 88. I’m happy to trade perfectly stored 88s for people’s 01s.

We definitely disagree on '83 and '89. Both excellent Yquem, but I absolutely love '88 and that is my favorite of the decade. I do also love '01, but every time I’ve had it has seemed too young. You can’t have my bottles though, I trust they will improve over my entire life.

The bottle we had last weekend was the lightest colored one we’ve ever opened but was spectacular.

It’s interesting the 88 was actually darker than the 69, which was phenomenal.

Sure all d’Yquem is pretty good. But if I’m drinking d’Yquem I want a 75/88/01 type experience.

Sure it’s not the best vintage of yquem, but I would characterize as very good, along with the 05. It’s definitely better than 02, 04, and 06-08. It just so happens that decade has two all time great vintages. I think it’s well worth buying at 299.

We like and drink a lot of Sauternes, though.

Bunch of Kobayashi on auction this week at winebid: “kobayashi” | WineBid Not list pricing, but I haven’t seen it come to auction much.

Yeah saw them early this week and also that folks started bidding on almost all of them immediately!

Applejack (Colorado) has 2022 Sigaut Chambolle Musigny for $60. I’ve only had items delivered across town, never shipped - not sure what shipping options there are but wanted to post for awareness

1998 Yquem 299 on envoyer

Good price. I have some halves and it’s still quite youthful but enjoyable.

This is a great deal: Case aged Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Kabinett - Commerce Corner - Wine Classifieds - WineBerserkers

We so often complain about folks not putting their wines on CC before sending to auction

   @DLown (who I have never conversed with or met) doing a solid.
