Teeny Tiny Wineries of... Oregon

That makes sense: I know that Lumos and Dominio IV for example are above 1000 cases (I interned there) but below 2000-ish

Thanks to Todd we are enjoying a Day Wines Johan now. I had my daughter stop by when she was in Oregon tasting with friends. She really enjoyed tasting at Day.

Brianne Day is very nice, and with a cool line up too. Maybe not teeny, but…

I’ll start using the hashtag, Todd. Thanks !

Whatever it takes to keep the hustle turned on David.

I was poking around the websites of some of the wineries in this great thread and noticed that Redman Vineyard & Winery was sold to Bergstrom. It doesn’t look like their website has been updated in a couple years.

Suzor was mentioned up thread but doesn’t appear on the master list. I haven’t tried their wines yet, but they had a Berserker Day offer this year that I couldn’t resist and I’ve got a shipment arriving today.

Lundeen wines too. Well worth searching out.

Realistically there is an entire layer of delicious, hand crafted, artisan wines which has little affiliation with the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, Oregon Pinot Camp, and the IPNC. For awhile now this lid has been shut on smaller producers who lack funds to staff tasting rooms, or get much play from a national distribution platform. I always encourage the small guys just to have two or three markets tops as the distributors need to make enough money off your brand to make it worthwhile to them too. The reason most folks make $60 bottles of wine is so that the chain of custody can make $20 on their shake too (distributor to retailer is 2/3rds right the there).

So, have you all perused the list and actively made purchases? Yes, no, maybe, never. If you have, and especially if you bought wine from a producer who gets little play on the board, then please write a note or make mention.

The tasting notes/mentions really do go a long way in helping. Danke.

Lumos is teeny tiny for sure, although over 1000 cases.

Dominio IV does quite a bit of custom crush under the Missing Silo hat, correct? The D4 wines have always been very good, but not sure if this thread is meant for tiny wineries where the ability to hyper focus on a small production is the idea?

I would not consider Hatcher Wines or Francis-Tannehill to be teeny tiny(extreme example), but Todd, even with all of his other hats, is still quite small and focused. D4 seems somewhere in the middle, but on the higher than teeny tiny side.

That is true about D4. When I worked there in 2016 we did about 160 tons (which included Lumos). Yes, under Missing Silo, D4 also produced Native Flora and a few others (such as Zivo) but not sure exactly what changed in their new facility.

I’ve been working with some great small wineries in Oregon. Two of the smallest that are both awesome are:

  • Gonzales Wine Company
  • Fullerton Wines (not sure if this qualifies as teeny tiny)

I have noticed some PDX wine shops, like Vinopolis, Park Ave, L&E to be good suppporters of teeny tiny brands too. If you want to mix and match singles, this could be a viable path for you.

Disclaimer: they are my customers too.

Big ups on Vinopolis - they do a great job there.

Hey, are you all getting your teeny tiny on?

You should.

Yes, we are! Got some on Berserker day. Haven’t gotten much into the pinots, but have placed additional orders with Suzor (Pet Nat yum) and Franny Beck (delicious rose’). Greg delivers, which is so cool. He knows me as the crazy toy poodle lady.

Sure, I enjoyed a bottle of 2017 Gypsy Dancer Christine’s Cuvee Pinot Noir over the last few nights. With your pending departure/retirement, I’m uncertain of the 2017 or current winemaker at Gypsy Dancer. Sorry that I didn’t get a chance to swing by the business park over the years.

And, I opened a 2011 Cameron Abbey Ridge Pinot Noir on Saturday night and I’ve been enjoying the remnants over the work week. Just a little bit left for the weekend. Fantastic wine.

And, I enjoyed a bottle of 2016 Red Electric Pulse Pinot Noir over the last week. The barrel presence seemed to increase over the week, but I was happy with all of the wines.

I think that all 3 have been listed as teeny tiny at some point during the thread…

Post some TNs! Always curious about how these are progressing.

I’m terrible with tasting notes, but I’ll say slowly. Progressing slowly.

I woke up with a little allergy thing this morning and I’ve been fighting it all day. If my sense of taste is still OK, I’ll try to give a better description of the 2011 Cameron AR PN over the weekend.

I made all the 17’s for them (Gypsy Dancer), not sure if they took 18 off or not. I only made 18’s for J. Craw, but in 19 I made a Tempranillo for Parra, and a Semillon and Pinot noir for J. Craw. And that is all she wrote. No 20’s here.

My last bottling was the Biha Ruby Riserva port style (think Tawny) that was a blend of 14 and 16.

Been digging championship bottle! Saul makes good stuff.
