TCA smell from unopened bottle

Still, if it reeks so badly that it spreads to all the other bottles in the shipper and the shipper, they don’t have to know why they are smelling the red flag. So, it’s similar to a couple restaurants I’ve been to that were serving corked water. Presumably contaminated in their bars’ tubing. They didn’t know what was contaminating the water(!), but were clearly trying to cover it up with lemon and still serving it! That’s reprehensible. And yes, the gross negligence of potentially poisoning large numbers of customers isn’t equivalent to the negligence that could cost a customer tens of thousands of dollars in having to tear out and rebuild a wine cellar and necessitate cleaning all of the bottles therein, making them unsellable and unpresentable.
