Tasting some wines: G. Bouley Sancerre - B. Giacosa Barbaresco - Produttori

Around mid-Sept. a few friends gathered to eat and drink. It was a special occasion, as I don’t normally drink wines of this caliber. The food was some cheese and duck/mashed pots/spinach. The wines all performed flawlessly. Kind of nice when everything works out as you hope. The two reds were decanted 2-3 hours.

2011 G. Bouley Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu - One of the best whites of the year for me. Maybe Vatan is better, maybe. Amazing complex balance of fruit and minerals with acid to open the door for the next bite of cheese.

2004 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Ovello - Light ruby color, nose is packed with roses, flavors are full and round with touch of anise/herbs toward the end, tannins are firm but yielding

2001 B. Giacosa Barbaresco Asili - Still lighter ruby color, the nose is a lesson in Barbaresco as each scent rings out clear as a struck bell, flavors of fruit both dark and light mix with leather and herbs backed by spices, elegance as well as power on full display, the wizard of Neive shows the true scope of his magic

thanks for the notes, Gary, damn fine lineup [cheers.gif]

Is asili coming out of its shut down?

Thanks for the notes, Gary; I’ve got both of those Barbarescos and appreciate the temptation to try one.

Neither of the reds were tight or closed. They might benefit a touch from more for time, but they were really good. The decant seemed to work well, if I had more or they weren’t so expensive I repeat the whole thing again.
