Tariff steps forward & comments on 2020 Bordeaux

Today a joint announcement regarding the tariff’s,
In a joint statement, the US and the UK said they have agreed to a four-month tariff suspension to “ease the burden on the industry and take a bold, joint step towards resolving the longest-running dispute at the World Trade Organization”.
With an expression that there is hope this leads to the removal of tariffs for the region - I do have a one track mind on French wine.

The consensus on the Bordeaux 2020 vintage is coming in - and it seems to be consistent:
The authoritative report is clear and compelling. In a nutshell, quality is high, if variable; quantity is low. A quote I read about the vintage - “potentially outstanding”
Production is basically down an average of 10% except Pomerol which is actually up.

And once again, I will be told how the Chateaux have produced less and released less than last year.
And I should expect my allocation to be down.
Which is what I was told for almost every vintage since the mid-1990s
If that is true, I continue to wonder when will the allocation to us will be only 1/btl to offer to us?

And I will notify my clients they must share the one bottle- and we are offering teaspoons…

Had to start your own thread?

So this suspension already started?
does that mean we can start shipping our wines that are being held internationally and avoid the 25% tariff?

No it does not.

I’m really inexperienced with a social or inline community, however, it does strike me in each instance
when someone’s instinct is to be cruel- I wonder why the first step is that you do not come
from the better angels of your nature.
You are assuming or accusing me of needing to start my own thread when an existing thread exist
and I must be aware of that fact.
Not knowing me, why would you chose to want to poison the well of discussion?

Why would you prefer that tone rather than ask or suggest or even go as far as to link up
where you think the post belongs?

To answer your question - it did not occur to me to search for a thread to add this update,
I was excited with this news and thoughts sharing it might be of interest or helpful to others.
of course if you point me to the place it should be - I could try to figure out what to do…

It was about five posts below yours. No searching required.

If it had been a post about someone selling Screagle you would have been all over it.

Nothing cruel. It’s just having multiple threads means having to rehash stuff that has already been covered 20 times in the original tariff thread.

David - sounds like you’ve got a lot of anger that you want to let out,
as we have not met, I cannot imagine that I am a cause, I imagine
the on-line social interaction provides the opportunity you need to get
some of that anger off of your chest…
And you think you’ve got me pegged?

We’ve dealt with more than 400 people in the recent month from Berserker -
from the Berserker Day Sale, to the folks who want to sell their allocation of Screaming Eagle, SQN & Scarecrow,
and all I’ve met is good people, really nice folks, and you are the very first one who has had this hostile attitude -
and what’s interesting is - we are not conducting a transaction beyond you letting off steam.

& you find my comments are a rehashing ? which one? the one about the early reviews of the 2020 Bordeaux?
or the lifting of the 25% tariff with England? (did someone already list that?) I should look, you say it is 5 lines down

I appreciate your early peek at the 2020 Bordeaux vintage. I did post something in the longer tariffs thread about the US/UK tariffs being suspended but have no complaints about this being a new thread.

thanks, it did not even occur to me to look around for a previous thread
which I’ll be certain to do in the future…

I agree with Glen here. Thank you William for your information on the 2020 Bordeaux vintage. I don’t think I will be buying any, but I said the same thing about the 2019 Bordeaux vintage and failed miserably! And, there have been many posts that have had overlaps in information and the moderators here do a very good job of merging when they deem it to make sense. More info is always better for me.

Cheers,
Ed

I don’t see what the big deal is…but some folks are a little stressed from a year of covid. Having said that, given the importance of this issue, the more collective thoughts the better! Have a good day and chill everyone!

Any new threads with topical overlaps versus existing threads will be eliminated or merged. Eventually, we can thereby winnow Wine Talk into just one big thread, talking about wine. (Do not cite different taste preferences, grapes, vintages, regions, or producers, as a Trojan horse to do otherwise.) Open letter to follow…
