Marianos regularly runs “buy 6 get 20% off”. Decent selection plus their regular prices are already pretty good. Special shows up every 1-2 months.
And Jewel has the 33% one every so often as well.
Sometimes you can find good vintages of Dom and Cristal.
There is an old saying in the grocery business, “You can’t take margin to the bank, but you can take dollars” or something to that extent. If a grocery store makes $4.00 on a single heavily discounted bottle of fine wine, they’ve made more money than selling multiple cases of other products (for instance some canned soups). And it is less stocking, less rings, and less bagging (in the old days).
I’ve been out of the retail grocery biz for over 10 years but things haven’t changed that much.
Idk if it’s nationwide, but my local Kroger (which somehow has among the best grocery store wine selections in town) is doing 25% off 6+ bottles May 6-12.
The best random deals I’ve had like that were from Ralph’s when I lived in westwood, 6 bottles of Blanton’s for $49 with 40% off, and of all places, Vino Volo, which gave 50% off 6 bottles of any wine if you were Grande Reserve a few yeas ago, I bought a 6 pack of 09 Cristal for $105/btl all in.
20% off Marianos (Kroger) in Chicagoland.
Or a different view, 9.75% discount after lovely Chicago taxes
No. When you add in the taxes you saved, it’s even a better deal
The point being it’s not really 20% off in Chicago…
Ok, but you’re paying like 8% sales tax on many online orders.
Yes it is, for those who live here.
20% + 9.75% of the 20%
yes, I understand that you don’t like sales taxes. There are still a couple of states that have us beat
I’ll just say, a W-S low after tax is still a W-S low. And I’ve had a few of those at Marianos.
At least you don’t have a resort fee or “kitchen love”
