2006 Marcassin Pinot Noir Three Sisters Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (2/5/2012)
I keep reading how Marcassins are alcoholic bombs etc etc. Well, this wine is not even close. The nose is amazing and ever changing. Notes of caramel, cherries, rhubarb, black pepper, mint, and smoke go in and out as you swirl. The palate is medium in weight with some black cherries, cinnamon, vanillin and a great note of sage throughout. Great acid structure and an ungodly long finish. A delicious and ridiculously complex wine. What a delight to drink.

2008 Roar Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (2/5/2012)
Nice nose of dark cherries and black berries. The palate is deep and pure with ripe berries but a constant green note that adds to the complexity rather than deter. Strong and tit. This wine needs more time but a pleasure to drink now if you don’t mind tight power. Long finish.

2008 Walter Hansel Winery Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/5/2012)
Big nose of overripe berries. The palate is big and somewhat disjointed with some cinnamon and blueberries. Some vanilla and a boozy finish. The 04 was a seminal wine for me but this one doesn’t do it for me.

2009 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills - Sta. Rita Hills (2/5/2012)
Yummy nose of dark cherries and some vanilla. Te palate is deep and long full of dark berries, baking spices and a hint of oak. Lovely length and a forever finish that reminds me of flowers. Delicious stuff.
