Just turned on the game after opening another ‘92 Leroy - this time the Latricieres Chambertin. Not at the level of the RSV but I’m still lovin’ it. Not as expressive or complex, but the fruit is as dense.
Hoping for a game as good as the wine.
Hi Ray,
I have consistently enjoyed the '92 Lerorys since I first tasted a thorough lineup of them when they arrived here in NY in '94. Like many '92s, they have aged much better than expected (without going through to my knowledge that weedy phase that a lot of other '92s went through in the '96-'00 period). It’s funny that I like them better than Madame Leroy’s '90s, as well as most of her post-'93 wines. I have this gut instinct that she does best in the more delicately-styled vintages where she feels there is not sufficient raw material to really push her stylistic predilections on the wines, so that vintages like '91, '92 and '00 end up the most interesting to my palate here. But a lot of the top producers in '92 have turned out really fine wines that have aged very well, and it definitely rates as one of my sleeper vintages to lookk out for current drinking. Still, despite my certainty that the '92 Latricieres is just singing tonight- I would not trade it for the '08 Huet Le Mont Demi-Sec in my hand- (wouldn’t go with the shrimp nearly as well)! Have the Chargers woken up yet, or should I skip the second half?
Best,
John
