Jay, there are 2 types of people at this event: those at Mark’s table and those who want to be at Mark’s table!
Seriously, if there is room at Mark’s table or the Bordeaux table, I’d like to go there (just to hang with the peeps). I would be happy to be at an Italian table if it was more specific. I mean, there’s no French table. So if there’s a Barolo table, an Aglianico table or a Sagrantino table, I’m there. I could also go for a Cali Cab table.
I want in plus 3 - same as last time. Me. My wife Rebecca Schenk. Larry Marchini III and Cousin Vinnie (who is actually borther-in-law Vinnie). How about if the four of us start a table called “Mediterranean Gourmet” which will be Italy and Spain, with Port for desert?
I was thinking an “Italian” table with one flight of three Barolos, one flight of three Barbarescos, one flight of three Brunellos and maybe one flight of three Super Tuscans or high end Chiantis. If you want to ruin the day with Aglianico and Sagrantino, that’s your funeral, not mine. I do have some Aglianico at home, but no Sagrantino and no Valtellina. We just got back from Italy, and although customs seized my wild boar sausage with fresh truffles, I might be able to get some nice imported salami and bring it for an appetizer course.
I may re-name my table as the Killer B’s - Barolo, Barbaresco and Brunello. Or maybe just the BB Guns - Barolo and Barbaresco. I’ll have to ask my compatriots.
I definitely don’t want to do what Jay is talking about. I see no similarity between Barolo and Brunello other than that they come from the same country that hasn’t been around that long. But I don’t want to be telling anyone else what to do. If there are enough people to do a Nebbiolo table, I would be happy to be there. (I might even recruit a couple of extra Nebbiolo Nuts.) But if there is a straight Cali Cab table, I would be very happy with that. It is, after all, a steak dinner.
Hi Mark,
Please place us at the California table.
Please place Diane and Joel Kessler at the Italian or Rhone table,
Dave and Isa Gruzinski at Rhone or Italian table
Hey, what do I know? I grew up on Manischewitz. I will defer to the Italian guy with the fancy degrees. How about if we change the name of “my” table to “The BB Guns - Barolo and Barbaresco.” So long as I get to bring port for desert because my wife hates it and I rarely have a good chance to open a bottle unless I have other people around to share it.
