Anyone have any suggestions for magnum storage? I’ve got plenty of shelf space in the cellar and have just been using 3pk mag styro shippers. I’ve also used OWC Bordeaux cases but those only seem to hold 3 or so. As the qty ticks up, it just looks cluttered and messy.
Any ideas that I’m missing? It’s mostly champagne and burgundy shaped bottles with a few that are BDX shaped. A small collection, about 40 and growing.
I assume you don’t want magnum sized racks. I got a double rack from Apex through Costco.com. Holds 36 magnums ( I use most of the space for sparkling wine or other big bottles).
Agree. Not all burgundy bottles will stack. But most will stack and I will try to have a bin of similarly-sized mags. Or, I will use differently sized bottled to wedge a big bottle with smaller ones (like bouchard Jero in previous photo).
Germans don’t fit. Just use individual racking for those.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I’m looking for a less than permanent solution so while mag racking would be great I’m not sure it’s in the cards right now. The diamond bins are a good idea but like ashish said above the though of sticking burg and especially champagne mags in there is a bit worrisome.
Tyler,
I built shelves with a lip on them. The shelves are about six inches deep.
The bottles lay on them, parallel to the wall and are restrained by the lip. If they still roll around, you can have a square dowel cut the length of the shelf the same size as the lip - it takes up space without being visible.
Best, Jim
I designed my racking with 6" open space on top. This allows for magnum placement above standard bottle racks around the entirety of my cellar. I just nailed wood slats directly above the standard bottle slots to keep bottles in place. Works like a charm. Unfortunately, this design doesn’t allow for any crown moulding, but I am okay with it.
