Studio at Montage, Craig Strong is brilliant

Last night six of us made the journey down to Studio at the Montage for a special dinner prepared for us by Craig featuring white truffles as the main ingredient. Our other guests have dined here before but for us it was the first time. I now know what all the fanfare has been about, having read the gushing review in the L.A Times just a few weeks before. Four plus hours and 18 courses later I will say that I think there is no better upscale dining expierience in Los Angeles and Orange County for that matter. For the wine we brought everything from DRC’s to Yquem, seven bottles all told. The location is without a doubt the most beutiful on the coast, amazing vistas coupled with stunning Craftsman styled architecture. The food, oh man, I still can taste the truffle " lasagna" the best duck breast we had all ever tasted, a brilliant truffle tart as light as air, butter tender Kobe beef, the real Kobe, with root vegetables, the signature amuse of a caviar " taco", baby crab " enchiladas " and so many more, we finished off the meal with an amazing array of deserts and a 67 Yquem. Not for the faint of heart dollar wise, two grand and that was with our own bottles. Craig came out and sat with us and sipped a little and told us of his trip to Santa Barbara earlier that day to get fresh spot prawns and other goodies, oh man that means we’ll have to head back to see what he does with the spots.

Cheers…

Sounds like an amazing dinner and a white truffle one, wow… The Montage sits on one of the most beautiful bluffs in California, what a view. I have to eat there one of these days…

Very Nice!!!

You wont be dissapointed trust me. Call ahead and have Craig create something special for you.

Cheers…
