Storage cabinets/fridges

We’re in the process of building a new house - while we were originally thinking about building a “proper” cellar, we’re starting to rethink this. WE have about 600 bottles now, and honestly I’d like to keep it around there - and it seems like the economics don’t work for collections of these size. Plus, we can always take a fridge/cabinet with us.

We’re putting a 50 bottle fridge upstairs, in our bar/butler pantry. We want storage in the basement, and thinking about a fridge or cabinet unit behind a bar. Our primary goal is storage more than “show”.

Does anyone have experience/thoughts on WineKoolr (was Vintage Keeper) or the cabinet vs. fridge generally? Are we going down the right path?

Thanks.
Tim

I don’t have any experience with either of the coolers you are looking at. What is your budget and your reliability expectation? If you can afford Le Cache or Eurocave, both make coolers in the size you are looking for and are very reliable.

If you get a cooler with shelves, expect to remove many of those shelves to fit larger bottles like Syrah, Champagne, CDP, many cabs, etc. If you purchase a cooler with racking that advertises the ability to fit bottles larger than Bordeaux, your in the ballpark. Then, you just want to ensure your getting a reliable cooling unit…
