Stony Hill 2006 Napa Chardonnay - Legendary Property for a Reason

This personifies the idea that California Chardonnay is more than butter and oak. Stones, melons, apricots, anise, sweet corn. Very tropical in the nose, and very subtle flavors follow. Stones lead the way again.

Peach, pear, apricot, honey and strawberry flavors. Good acidity frames an expansive, rich wine.

I am still making my way through my 1991 and 1994’s. 2006 … infanticide. ;p

Great producer…Sarah Sandbeck introduced me to them when I toured with her from http://sommelieronwheels.com/

Loved their wines from the 80’s

NOTE: Sarah S. is a friend…what a great company…what a great business. So glad I worked with her in the wine industry for the summer of 2007

I’ll second Phils thumbs up, love Stony Hill Chard.

This is even better on the second night. Everything was beautifully knit together (and yes, very young!). Enjoyed with seared Hamachi, and quite heavenly.

Certainly one of the great old school CA Chard producers, I put them on a par with the like of Matanzas Creek, Chateau Montelena, Hanzell, and Jos. Swan, all producers that make Chard that can age well for decades.

Just had one of these (my first stony hill) and it was incredible. I decanted it for an hour. For being so steely, it had a serious weight to it.

Make sure to try their Cabernet Sauvignon, they really waited for the vines to mature a bit before making a serious Cab and it’s pretty serious stuff.

This was my first mailing list back in the 1970’s. Great under the radar producer.
