Steve, do you know which size of SS thief you guys are using? I’m thinking about getting one to use at a barrel auction later this year.
BTW, nice dragonfly.
Thanks. Yeah it’s worth it if you use them at events or do a lot of barrel sampling for guests. My winemaking partner likes to chase me around the winery with it if he doesent like what I’m doing!!!
saw one of these in Meursault for 125 Euros. Madness. Not sure why someone would want a wine thief without a window anyhow.
Not really sure why you need to see inside the thief. I don’t need to do so, anyway. At $150 for SS, that’s the equivalent of 3 glass thieves, which could easily break inside a year (not to mention inside a barrel). So I’m almost sold on SS. But if I can get an SS baster to do the same job for $15, why not?
I will pick one up at the next opportunity and report in.
Hey Matt,
sure. You don’t need to have a window. But, I like it. Seeing the fill level, color, etc. It’s just nice. That said, having one break would be horrible. Also, I picked up a nice glass version at the same shop (Fichet - Meursault) for 11 Euros, compared to the SS (Inox) version that is a large savings.
Cheers!
I only paid $79.00 for the short one.
