Special Wine for a Special Occasion?

Do you have a “special bottle” in your cellar and when do you plan to pop it? For me, its a 1966 Chateau Latour and holding it until my oldest finishes law school in another 18 months (fingers crossed). Hope it won’t be flawed or disappoint (same goes for my son [tease.gif] ).

I have a bottle of 89 Le Gay I plan to pop soon before my move. I hope it shows well!!

Mag of '95 Bollinger Grand Annee for a big anniversary…

Two bottles of '96 Dom Perignon for my daughter’s 21st birthday. One to drink with us and the other to share with her friends. 7 years and a couple of weeks to go…

Serge, I’m probably not the first to say this, but I want to be at your funeral!! [welldone.gif]

Interesting topic – personally, I consider the vast majority of wines in my collection ‘special wines for special occasions’. I have a proposal bottle of champagne (if only finding the girl were as easy!), I have bottles for friends (weddings, birthdays, etc), some ‘76 burgs for my parents’ anniversaries, and of course, bottles for me!

Some I guess are unplanned. My sister will be reading Latin grace at Cambridge next month, and I think I’ll use it as an opportunity to pop some '89 Grand Dame Rose.

A tough life.

I have a few special bottles.

1986 Margaux,1990 Leoville Las Cases, 1963 Taylor Fladgate Port - saving for my 50th birthday

2005 Vineyard 29 - 1 bottle each valentine’s day. My wife loves this wine, and our first taste was a couple of years ago on Feb. 14th. So each year, I will pull one out for her and enjoy on this day.

Various bottles to celebrate my kids birthday’s as turn 18 (birth year wines).

Also, just for the record, I have already arranged front row seats at Serge’s funeral…I will fight with Mike to see who pours [pillow-fight.gif]

2000 FGs for anniversaries along with 96 Salons and some 02/05 Dujacs, Vogues, Rousseaus,

few spcl bottles that i have would be…several vintages of screaming eagle, '59 mouton, margaux and llc, '88 drc and few others…

I’d be open to an arrangement if 05 DRCs are the dowry! I can’t be THAT much older than they are [rofl.gif]

We have several bottles that are stashed for special occasions but trying to think which it will be for our big one in July. 30 years of fun with Mr. Mac & Cheese. flirtysmile Hmmm ! what 1980 wine to have.

No, I don’t have a single one. All the bottles I have are for drinking whenever I feel like it. The only exceptions would be extremely young ones that were given to me as gifts. Those will get opened when I feel like experimenting or, I imagine, if I give them away.

As the years wear on, I find that each and every day friends or family converge around my table is a special occasion, and any wine in my cellar is fair game.

I am a rich man indeed.

A mag of 75 La Miss HB.

The only wines I won’t open on any given night are wines from 1917 and 1940 since they’re my gma and mom’s birthyears. I only open those with them.
