Special occasion restaurant in DC

I am trying to find a place to get a gift certificate for a friend, something on par with a Gramercy Tavern or Marea in NYC - ie 1-2* type, not overly fancy, ~$100 food cost per person. If it’s a bit ethnic that’s a plus.
Thanks in advance.

The first three that come to mind:

Omakase Counter | Hours + Location | Sushi Taro ~$125 for a pretty sweet omakase meal at a 6 seat counter

http://komirestaurant.com - $135 menu.

Obelisk, no website but contact info

I haven’t been, but friends like CityZen.

Medieval Times?

I mean who wouldn’t want a gift certificate to dinner ~and~ a tournament? [snort.gif]

I dig Proof. In fact, I’m going tomorrow night.

Rasika is another option

Proof is one of my favorite restaurants, too! Their sister restaurant, Estadio is also excellent (Spanish Tapas)

Other favorites include:

Central by Michel Richard

Zaytinya (middle eastern mezze by jose andres)

Red Hen is getting quite a tremendous buzz (I haven’t been yet)

I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but that’s what comes to mind immediately.
