We started with a 2010 Henri Bourgeois Quincy ‘Haute Victoire’. This is a small appellation in the Loire Valley made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. We’ll follow that with 2011 Chateau Ste Michelle’s Dry Riesling from the Columbia Valley in Washington. The new vintage (2011) of the Chateau D’Esclans Whispering Angel Rosé has just arrived. This is always one of our favorite Provence Rosés.
The 2010 Irony Pinot Noir from Monterey County in CA will be the first red to taste, followed by a great buy on Antinori’s Villa Antinori Toscana Red 2008. This powerful Sangiovese usually retails at $23.49, but is being offered at $14.99 for this buy. Such a deal!
Dick,
I thought the Quincy was the classic definition of “minerality” in a wine…a textbook example that I liked quite a lot.
The Irony Pinot comes from the vast SanBernarbeVnyd in southern MontereyCnty, owned by the Indelicato family over in Manteca.
I thought it was a typical SanBernarbe wine…dull as dishwater…not much fragrance…not much structure…and cheap.
Cheryl Indelicato makes some higher-end wines under the “Hand Craft” label, over in Manteca. The two that I’ve had thus
far have been pretty unthrilling and I’m not tempted to try any more.
