Pale gold color. Chilled then popped and poured to accompany shrimp scampi on pasta. Nose of grapefruit, intense florals, vanilla, lemons. Full and vibrant on the palate with lots of citrus and pear cut nicely by bracing acidity and flinty mineral structure. An overlying layer of creaminess also. Long, harmonious finish marked by white fruit and grippy notes. Delightful wine. From a 375. (92 pts.) -

Popped and poured. Dark purple color. Full, perfumed nose of damson plum, licorice, moca, tar. Powerful on the palate with broad layers of black plum, chocolate, marzipam, leather, and earth. Dusty tannins and some enticing acidity still. Sweet, grippy and concentrated on the very satisfying finish. Excellent showing. Half bottle. (91 pts.) -
1997 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric dël Fiasc - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (4/4/2011)
Opened and aired in the glass for an hour. Nice dark ruby. Nose of tar, violets, earth, leather. Full and ripe on the palate with layers of moca, caramel, sweet plum, and satisfyingly concentrated tar notes. Nicely acidic with resolving tannins, very little oak. Ringing, lengthy finish. Quite open and ready to go on this showing with years of life left. (93 pts.)
