From an email I got from the Antique WIne Company:
"The strong winemaking team at Screaming Eagle have never looked back after the 1992 vintage when just 80 Cabernet Sauvignon vines produced a tiny 225 cases of wine to worldwide acclaim and 99 points from Robert Parker. "
One vine producing 35 bottles of wine? Surely some mistake…
I sure hope they meant 800.
There originally were only 80 Cabernet vines in the vineyard when it was purchased. The other vines were torn up and replanted several years prior to the '92 vintage. A combination of those original 80 vines and the newer vines produced that first vintage. What that total is, I have no idea.
I believe in California that is called “artistic licensing”.
There’s so much over-cropping these days.
