Took a trip out to Nova Scotia on Sunday, beautiful day for salmon and some burgundy. Too bad both my bottles were clunkers!
2004 Dauvissat Chablis La Forest
Easy to place blind as Chablis, though I thought it might be an 07 and a grand cru given the depth of fruit - which unwound some with swirling. The perfect wine for a spring day, redolent of the sea and orchard fruits like apple and pear. Very rocky/minerally, loved it.
1998 Grivot NSG Boudots
What a bummer. Not corked, but clearly an off bottle in some shape or form. Seemed advanced colorwise and the nose belied more of a cedary old cab type nose than a Burg. The fruit was definitely flat-footed, running out of gas like a marathoner on Heartbreak Hill.
Ok, I’ll bust out a sure winner:
2005 Fourrier Aux Echezaux
Corked. Badly.

2002 La Pousse d’Or Volnay Clos de la Bousse d’Or
Well leave it to the host to rectify the weak peformance of the prior two bottles with this gem. Violets and spices belie the masculine punch underneath. Dark and brooding fruit, like biting into a handful of raspberries. Nicely tart and acidic, with genteel tannins. Would think this has a long long life ahead, but delicious now.
2001 Fourrier MSD Clos Salon
A great way to wrap things up, lots of savory meatiness to the cranberry-esque fruit. Not the most complex or thought provoking wine on the planet, but not all wines need to be as evidenced here. In a great place right now, slurped this down with ease.
Thanks to my host from the coast for saving the afternoon with bottles that didn’t suck like my two did.
