Sojourn tasting

These wines were off the charts, so I want to post a quick recap on my tasting. I did not take formal notes, and unfortunately I don’t have time for much of a detailed report.
We tried 5 Pinots, all of which were fantastic. I know score-based reports aren’t exciting, but it’s all I can really do at the moment.
Once the wines are released, I am looking forward to a more descriptive tasting of each.

In order of preference:

(1) 2008 Sangiacomo (96-98 pts), the most CA style of the bunch. Beautiful aroma, fantastic weight/body.
(2) 2008 Gap’s Crown (96 pts), Incredibly long finish, with some time this could be spectacular. Nice minerality.
(3) 2008 Rodgers Creek (93 pts), the most Burgundian to me. A very elegant wine. Can’t wait to see how this one develops.
(4) 2008 Sonoma Coast (91 pts)
(5) 2007 Adler Springs, Mendocino County (90 pts)

All of the wines were fantastic. Nice job, Erich; and thanks Lesli for a lovely tasting.

Thanks for posting. We tried 2 08’s back in October(Sang and Gaps) and I would agree. As good as their 07’s were the folks at Sojourn are really excited about how well their 08’s came out. Release is at the end of Jan.

Wow, impressive scores.
Any word on pricing for their 2008 vintage? Heard the Sonoma Coast may go to $39 from $36 for the 2007. Having said that the 2007 SC is rocking right now and they were excited about it prior to release.

Alex -

We have not yet made a decision on the pricing on our 2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot noir bottling (our 2007 Sonoma Coast was priced at $36 retail). Our goal has always been to keep the retail price for this wine in the $30’s, although this had been made more difficult with our increasing fruit and overall production costs. The 2008 Sojourn vineyard designate bottlings will remain priced at $48 each. We will also continue in 2010 with our “Shipping Included” policy that we initiated in January 2008.

I’m not one the big buyers on here, but this definitely makes purchasing the few bottles I purchase that much easier! Unfortunately, not enough wine budget to buy the 2008 pinots this year, but I will be taking some of the 2007 cabs since that was when my son was born.

Sitting here drinking an 06 Sojourn SC pinot while watching the Alamo Bowl. Opened last night, had a glass, then put away until tonight. Great juice. A little tight last night but drinking great tonight. Glad I have a bunch of Sojourn pinot in the cellar.

Great reviews from Pinot Report for Sojourn.
