So help me decide...

Had a basement flood problem, and hence a big hole in my bank account. There are a few mailers that Im really on the fence about. What do you think?
Turley Im almost sure Im passing on. I have about two cases of Turley, mostly PS and I dont drink it that often anymore.
Keplinger Never had one, sounds up my alley. PITA to send a couple of bottles to Vinfolio and double ship just to try them…
Tor…this is a tough one. I loved the 06 tokalon…but $150 is steep for what it is with Maybach and Scarecrow in the spring…
Definitely passing on Radio Coteau
Pax…they are dropping prices like crazy over there…but can always be picked up for release or less…
Any thoughts?

I can’t be of much help as those aren’t the wines I usually drink, but on the Pax, if you can usually find it retail for release or less, seems like that’s an easy drop.

–Berto, I think you have answered the question yourself. Buy what you drink for a good price. Pass on what can be gotten qt retail for less. Certainly pass on wines you have not tated.

How about you show us your list of mailers so we know what to guess?

Hmmm long list…from memory:
Scarecrow
Maybach
Lillian
Saxum
Carlisle
Seasmoke
KB
Outpost-buying cabs only
Schrader
Roar
Rudius
Pride
Turley-Fence
Pax-Fence
RC-dropped
Loring
Williams Selyem-dropped
Copain-syrah only
QC
Keplinger-Fence
Tor-Fence
Ramey
Alpha Omega
KL
Realm
Shit thats a lot.
Anyway waiting on Switchback, SQN and Cayuse only.

My thoughts based on tasting these and/or being on the respective lists. The others I don’t have a valid opinion on.

If your unsure…then pass.

Judging from your list I think you would like the Keplinger. I tried a Grenache based wine that was in the 16.5% abv range that was too big for my tastes. It is also available at the retail level. Backroom wines carries some.

Bill…thats what I thought youd say. KB is out next year most likely. I want the SVDs and they shut me out again. 07 was the year I really wanted so Im probably done. Seasmoke…I friggin love Seasmoke so we disagree on that one. The rest I think Im headed in tha direction.

Robert…thanks. I thought so. I might pick up a bottle or two. I am, however, in PA so retail (other than when I run out of state and some online maneuvering) is out of the question for me.

What he said. Tons of lists out there.

On your list the only thing that you couldn’t find easily, for a fairly similar price to the mailing list, that is also good is probably Maybach, Schrader and Lilian. Though I think if you worked hard enough you could get any of those wines for reasonable prices, just perhaps not in quantities you want. Some of the rest of your list is very easy to find and can often be had at good deals. Some of your list I simply can’t recommend.

Maybach sure, I could get some. Schrader? no way. Lillian yeah with some effort. And I know John I know my lists sound like a whos who of vodka and cranberry to you
BTW I think the 07 Realms will be very hard to find. And I also think you would like them.

All of the above? Then you can get some good wine. [swoon.gif]

If I wanted sweat and merde Id drink a port-a-potty. Ill stick with Cali wines
