Sneak peek at Paul Draper's back label of the 2015 Monte Bello

I found a draft of this accidentally left out on one of the tables at Assemblage Day:

The 2015 growing season for our Monte Bello cabernet blend started out innocuously with good flowering and fruit set, the temperatures alternating between cool and warm, until mild fog raised concerns about mold. These fears were quickly abandoned when Jimsomare was attacked by saber wielding wombats who laid waste to the vineyard. The sounds of vine gnawing continued deep into the night. Bicyclists climbing Monte Bello Road disappeared leaving only helmets. Then golf balls as big as hailstones peppered the Petit Verdot leaving a pile of splinters where there used to be…sob…Moving on, the Merlot grapes were in fine shape but the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors declared them unconstitutional. Fortunately, as September approached, Santa Cruz County customers – all of them – formed a giant prayer circle and the vintage was saved. This atypical Monte Bello should be consumed immediately or not at all.

Excellent.

As a cop once said to my friend, “well, that’s semi-believable…”
