This afternoon we watched the opening stage of the Tour de France (via TiVo), under clouds and occasional rain. While watching we enjoyed a small caprese - one tomato shared with slices of buffalo mozzarella, basil, and EVOO, thin slices of Salcisson de Vic, slices of three mozzarella rolls - Pizza Pizazz, Buffalo Seasoned, and Spicy Salame, and a few slices of spicy and mild salumetti from Fra’Mani. Wine was a 1997 Castello della Panneretta Chianti Classico - light staining of cork in the last half cm; bright nose and flavors of spicy fresh and dried red cherries; rich fruity mid-palate with good acidity, and a medium-long spicy fruit finish. It was very enjoyable with the food.
At this point we’d had enough to eat, and with the rain the local fireworks weren’t gong to be very interesting; so we put off the catfish and beet greens we were going to have up on our balcony watching fireworks, to tomorrow night. We finished inside watching more TV with TJ’s Chocolate bars, milk for Carollee and 72% Cocoa dark for me, with a 2006 Susana Balbo Late-Harvest Malbec ‘Virtuoso’ - very rich and enjoyable with the chocolates. Still don’t hear any fireworks, with the rain.
The catfish and beet greens will be enjoyable tomorrow.
