1995 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/11/2009)
Orange-red with slight browning at the rim, followed by a nose of kirsch, wet soil, blood, iron, and fully integrated tannins. Smooth and rustic, but I’d start drinking up 750’s now adn over the next 4 years. (91 pts.) -
2003 Château Lascombes - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (7/11/2009)
Holy cow, this has totallly changed since I last had it a couple years ago. Long gone is the overwhelming smell of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee, replaced by nice pretty black cherry, ripe plum, and nice acidity to balance it. Still young and showing some oak, but not all oak like it did. (91 pts.) -
2006 Sine Qua Non Syrah Raven Series - USA, California (7/10/2009)
Purple and opaque, huge nose of blueberry, blackberry, tar, a touch of orange blossom, and a full robust palate that hides the 15%+ alcohol, and has good acidity to give it lift and balance. Only going to get better and one of the most light on it’s feet SQN Syrahs I have had. Opened and left to breathe for 24 hours. Only upside here. (95 pts.) -
2006 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Falstaff Road Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (7/10/2009)
Medium ruby with a garnet rim. Nose of cherry, raspberry, touch of barrel spice, and a touch of wet earth. Medium plus bodied with flavors of sweet cherries, raspberries, cranberry, and a lite earthy tone. Very well made and balanced, great with food. (91 pts.) -
2004 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (7/10/2009)
Undrinkable. Hot, stewed fruits, tomato, plums, and way over the top alcohol and oak, with sweet cloying fruits. Opened 24 hours before consuming and tasted 3 times over the 24 hour period.
